Traffic Generation

Multimedia applications have recently been challenging existing fixed and mobile access networks and are raising the bar for next generation networks (NGN), both in terms of network traffic as well as in the expectations of end users. At the same time, the network and server landscape sees changes due to the advent of virtualization and split-architecture networks like OpenFlow.

In this heterogeneous environment, quantitative measurement and prediction of the user's Quality Of Experience (QoE) require testbeds capable of studying these effects with controlled synthetic traffic generation and network emulation in reproducible manner. Our goal is to study the impact of network effects on multimedia applications for future Internet by recreating such events in lab environment.
